Expecting Children To Do What You Say And Not What You Do - Or Difficult Kid Rearing Moments

By Ulysses Juniper Xavier

It would take years to cover every aspect of parenting because there are just too many out there. You could start reading now and still not finish everything that's out there for the next decade. Being a good parent won't happen overnight, so we realize you need to start somewhere. People may not always read about parenting until they are already too busy with their children. Some of you will start reading now and be ready once your first child comes. Congratulations to those of you who take an interest early on!

Often there are important lessons for us as parents to understand. Yes, sometimes our kids help keep us honest, too, and it can be cute while maddening when it happens.

Personally, I have always thought that it was not fair to make a seventeen or eighteen year make decisions at this time when they are so inexperienced. Yes, those lovely times of "thinking" what they want to do for a career. Of course there are lots of choices available these days. But as responsible parents, it is our duty to ensure that the right kind of information is provided to them. It is within their reach. Then make communications the highest priority and work with your teen child. Be supportive , but make it known that this is their life that that they are living.

Once you have a teenager, you can encourage them to apply for an after-school or summer job. While there can be many benefits of this discussion, probably the one they will like the most is having freedom with their own money. Then there are socializing aspects of it, getting out of the house, becoming more like an adult and having responsibilities. If you want to take the lessons further, speak with them about the value of saving a little money instead of spending all of it.

You can make your teens more responsible by giving them things around the house to do. Obviously, we are talking about both the tween and the teenage years. Chances are both parents work, and single parents almost have to do this just to get some help. But we suggest this because it will help them learn they need to help the home team. Yes, their family needs them. You should tell them why this is done and what you expect them to learn from it. People have a much greater tendency toward cooperation if they are given the reason why and it makes sense to them. Being a parent is hard and even more with teenagers, but it is imperative that you are diligent about introducing new thoughts. All children are different and will learn behaviors in various ways.

Increasing numbers of people tend to be recognizing that the family vehicle plays a big part in family associations. If you have an enjoyable automobile like a Jeep Wrangler, then household outings can be something to look forward to. Seek advice from your Jeep dealer to find out more.
