Computer Maintenance Ideas To Speed Up Your PC

By Henry Scott

When you have to submit a crucial assignment on a running application and your computer begins freezing up or you're chatting with a friend over Skype in a choppy sound even though your Internet connection is completely fine, it does really get into your nerves, doesn't it? Here are several PC maintenance tips you can do to speed up a sluggish PC.

Clear out your recycle bin often. If you keep erasing files from your drive, you know where they go directly. With these files being kept in the recycle bin indicates it still occupies space as they have just been moved to a temporary folder that you can still reinstate even after deletion. So keep it bare and clean after checking its content just in case you unintentionally erased essential files.

From time to time, check out all your installed programs and clean it out of all the ones you seldom use or no longer need. It needs proper deletion to completely remove these programs in your PC by accessing your Control Panel. Click on "Add or Remove Program" or "Programs and Features" icon and delete it from there. You can also see from there all the unused programs you've been keeping.

Arrange for a defragmentation time on all your hard drive partitions. This may take some time to finish, subject to the size of your drives, so be patient as it is worthwhile in the end. If you're an intense computer user, defrag your PC once a week. If not, then at least see to it that you do a monthly PC upkeep such as defragment.

After defragging your computer, run an "Error Checking" on all your drives as well. It is the same process, just choose "Error Checking" instead of "Defragment" and allow this tool to scan your drives and check for corrupted or damaged files that decelerate the pace of your PC.

If you multitask and run programs all at the same time and you've already done all the aforementioned methods but still it's not sufficient, it's time to upgrade and improve memory to enhance the total performance of your computer system. However, unlike the other suggestions, this will cost you as you would have to cough up cash for a new equipment. But the improvement this will present is absolutely worth the money.
