Rumor Summary: The 2012 Amazon Kindle Fire Media Slab Launches Q3

By Fausto Mendez

We've complied an outline of the most believable rumors and information leaks about the specs, features and release details of the 2012 Amazon Kindle Fire. Another name that gets tossed around is the Kindle Ice, but the details that get tossed around seem to be the same in most situations.

Whether or not the official title is "Fire", the final prototype will be a boundless pathway into the store's web site and digital services. Amazon's Kindle group of electronic book readers and media consumption devices are becoming incredibly successful vehicles of distribution for the firm's digitised media and regular stores. As a consequence, it's not surprising to hear Amazon plans to release a potent version of the Kindle Fire in 2012.

The following version should feature an 8.9-inch or 10-inch display, according to a few sources like BGR and Digitmes. Naturally, Digitimes has not got the best reputation because the company makes some ludicrous claims, but but it has released some fascinating and delicious pieces of reports because of the website's close relationship with Chinese factories.

Another big rumor that gets tossed around is that the next version of the Kindle tablet will ship with a quad-core processor. NVIDIA's Tegra 3 CPU was the chipset tossed around earlier in the year, so we thought it'd be a natural fit. But both Samsung and Qualcomm have next-gen, quad-core processors on the market, so it's much tougher to nail down the CPU brand.

Of course, the hot-selling tablets nowadays feature quad-core chips, so Amazon needs to be sure those extra cores ship with the tablet. The first Kindle Fire ships with a dual-core processor, so that is another reason we think an "upgraded" Kindle Fire would include a quad-core chip. November was the launch month for the 2011 Kindle Fire, so we'd love to think the next one would launch around the same time.
