How to find the most reliable parcel delivery service

By Henry Wilkinson

If your business regularly sends parcels and freight shipments to destinations throughout the world, you will need a reliable service to ensure everything is delivered on time. Parcels and shipments that arrive late or damaged will be very bad for your reputation as an international company, which could lose you business.

Freight forwarding services are used by most companies which import and export overseas, as they make organising and managing shipments easy and convenient. These services not only organise all shipments and monitor the progress of each on your behalf, but they also choose the most appropriate courier (i.e. UPS, DHL or TNT parcel delivery services) for each.

What's more, freight forwarding services also have a very close working relationship with leading couriers like DHL, Fed-Ex and UPS. This means they often get great discounts and deals, which can then be passed on to you, the customer.

When it comes to reliability, however, there are a few things you must look for in a freight forwarding service. These are tracking tools, customer service and insurance.

As standard, most freight forwarding companies offer some level of interactive order tracking tools. However, what you need is online tracking tools that give you detailed information about your shipment's progress, as well as customer service staff on hand at all times of the day and night to answer your questions and address your concerns.

Last of all, you should be offered some sort of insurance package when you sign up with a freight forwarding service. This will provide you with compensation if anything is lost, damaged or excessively delayed during delivery. If no insurance is included, you should look into taking out your own policy just in case the worst should happen to your shipment during transit.
